two-for-one

TWO for ONE!

I splurged on this dress at Good Will for $6.99
but I LOVE the fabric!!

Notice the sash/belt? good. It'll come back around!
After I got home I realized there was a zipper on the left side.
So naturally... I Pinterested it (yes, "Pinterest" can be a verb)

I started with my seem ripper to take the zipper off

zipper off, check!

Next I sewed a straight line about 3 inches below the elastic to keep the two skirt layers together and chopped the dress in half.

I threw the top part aside and carried on

Did a zig zag stitch on the zipper about halfway down in order to catch the zipper and chopped it in half - 'twas wayyyyy to long!

I learned this great trick online and started by sewing up the side of the dress where I wanted the zipper to go and ironed it flat.

Then placed the zipper on the seam and taped it down (another trick I stole from Pinterest)

I used a straight stitch as close to the zipper as allowed and sewed all the way around.
Pulled the tape off
and used the seem ripper to take the thread out of where the zipper would appear.
Tada - invisible zipper!!

The hem on the bottom was perfect so I didn't want to touch it.. I measured the length and cut from the top. I cut it at a slight angle so the front would be shorter than the back - I'm lovin the low-to-high look!  Took the sash that came with the dress and sewed it on as the top high waisted piece allowing the skirt to scrunch and ruffle.

The sash has about 10 inches extra on each side in the back
which I tied in a cute lil bow

Iron
Wear and
Enjoy!

The top turned out to be PERFECT for my pencil skirt

TWO-for-ONE!

Thanks guys!
I hope you were inspired :]

Borrowing another Pinterest idea!

Happy Wednesday friends!

So, I have realized while working on the last couple of projects that having a dress form makes life soooo much easier! But, seriously, who has an extra $200 to spend on one?!

Well.. thanks to Pinterent, I was able to MAKE one for $4! All you need is a good friend [or in my case, little sister!], a new role of duck tape or two, an old t-shirt, piece of cardboard and something to stuff your new dress form with.
Welcome to my MESS!

You start wrapping the tape around until you get to right below the bust..

Because our conjures are different on top, its best to place the tape vertically

Next we did the shoulders - as seen below.

We went all around again and TADAA! Almost all done!

My lovely sister chopped the duck tape shirt up the back - with the red shirt included - make sure to worn your friend NOT to cut your under shirt. We traced a piece of cardboard and taped it to the bottom, then filled the form with plastic bags so its would keep its shape!

And thats alll folks! Cost $4 and took less than an hour.

Notice the craft bins in the background? Sorry I didn't clean up for you! ...don't expect me to in the future :]

Have a great night friends
with love, Abby

Makin' a Messy introduction

Good afternoon friends!

This is my VERY FIRST BLOGGG! Ahhh!
I want to introduce myself a bit and let you know what I've been up to.
I graduated December 2011 with a Bachelors in Business Administration and minor in Biblical Studies from Lee University in Cleveland, TN.
I moved home to MN
and have been looking for the right job since.
While on the job hunt, I moved into my parents basement and have completely taken over with my MESS!
The basement living room has become my craft room with a sewing machine, iron, ironing board and multiple craft bins.

FAMILY
Allow me to introduce you

ME ME ME
I love being creative!
I looooove drinking coffee
and am working on opening a coffee shop in the near future
but most importantly, I love Jesus with my whole heart and life.

I am OBSESSED with Pinterest and catching myself constantly saying, "I can do that!",
I do seem to be accident prone,

my latest mishap ... a 1 inch needle in the heel

and recently discovered "refashioning"
I drug my friend, Alyssa, to Good Will with me (I think its worth noting that its her FIRST time in a second hand store) and we chose this lovely little number for $4.00. She thought I was crazy.

Cute right?! I loved the buttons and pattern.
It was a Saturday night and I could not find anything in my closet to wear... so I pulled the old dress out. This is what I came up with!

It was so easy and SOOO much fun! So I decided to give it another go around...

NEXT TIME Ill post the step by step process!

So that is what my blog will be about
I hope you stop by often
get inspired
and enjoy

God bless!

with love, Abby
